As part of its 50th season celebration, Marriott Theatre has teamed up with the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort’s Three Embers Restaurant to create pop-ups themed to match its productions. The latest, White Star Grill, ably re-creates menu items from the Titanic in tribute to its excellent production of Titanic The Musical.

The hearty English fine-dining fare hits all the right comfort-food notes. At the media preview on the show’s opening night, several items from the special menu were offered buffet-style, but they are plated a la carte during regular service.

Highlights include moist, tender bone-in short rib with whipped potatoes, mixed vegetables, compound butter and hazelnut chimichurri. The English garden salad, with potatoes, green beans, sun-dried tomatoes, cheddar cheese and tangy cream dressing, is also a hit.

Other options include a filet steak with Yorkshire pudding, shepherd’s pie, wood-fired lamb with lemon polenta, British steak & ale pie in house-made pastry, Sancerre poached scallops with creamy grits, poached king salmon with Basmati rice, wood-fired duck breast with spring vegetables, and chicken Lyonnaise, again with Yorkshire pudding.

Several of these dishes take inspiration from the Titanic’s first-class dinner menu on the fateful night of April 14, 1912, when the ship hit the iceberg that sealed its fate. These include the filet, the chicken, the lamb and a dessert of Waldorf pudding. It’s just a pity they didn’t bring back the foie gras.

The Three Embers dining room, which looks out onto the resort’s bucolic pond, lends itself well to a nautical theme. The effect is aided by set pieces crafted by Marriott Theatre’s design team, events company Ravenswood, and designers Anthony Churchill and Lauren Nichols. They make fine photo backdrops as well.

White Star Grill runs at Lincolnshire Marriott Resort’s Three Embers Restaurant through June 1, with service Tuesday-Saturday from 4-9pm.
